This is the shoe that started it all

This is the shoe that started it all.

The features of this simple shoe are considerable. Below is a rather extensive review of those features and why they are important for so many foot ailments.

The Orthopedic Shoe Innovation
Pedors are orthopedic shoes for various foot complaints. Specifically designed for people with Diabetes and Arthritis, Pedors are also of benefit to people with corns, bunions, hammertoes, Neuromas, poor circulation or fluid gathering in the feet and possibly those with RSDS and Lupus.

1. SEAMLESS NEOPRENE UPPER

    Diabetes
For people with Diabetes the seamless neoprene upper aids in reducing rubbing, abrasions, corns, calluses and most importantly ulcers. The neuropathy (nerve damage) experienced by many people with Diabetes reduces the ability to feel pain, heat or coldness. This can result in cuts, blisters, scratches, redness, hard skin and breaks which may go unnoticed for a while. The neuropathy reduces the ability of the foot to heal itself properly and can lead to infections and ulcers.

If left untreated the infections can lead to gangrene and ultimately amputation. It is therefore very important for people with Diabetes wear shoes that are seamless, have no rough edges or bumps. This why the seamless neoprene upper of Pedors is so important and could ultimately improve the quality of life for someone with Diabetes.

    Arthritis
Similarly, people with Arthritis may have inflamed, tender joints that quite often are deformed or distorted. The Neoprene upper "stretches" to accommodate any foot shape, holds it snugly and reduces foot movement within the shoe. This reduces the pain for people with Arthritis considerably. It has also been suggested by a number of podiatrists that the neoprene would reduce some of the fluid gathering in the foot by pushing the fluid from the foot and up the leg.

    General
People with Hammertoes, Corns, Bunions, Neuromas, Ingrown Toe Nails, etc. benefit from the neoprene upper also as it expands to accommodate different foot shapes. Again, once expanded it snugly holds the foot in a "correct" position reducing the amount of rubbing and friction, reducing pain considerably. Normal shoes can be of little comfort if they refuse to "give" in certain areas.

It has recently been suggested that Pedors may be of benefit to people with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome (RSDS). This disabling disease with simultaneous involvement of nerve, skin, muscle, blood vessels and bone has one common denominator for all patients - pain. The extremities may become swollen and tender where the benefits of the Seamless Neoprene Upper are explained above.

Similarly, Lupus may cause inflammation and injury to tissues resulting in pain. A Lupus Foundation of America market research in 1984 put the number of people to have been diagnosed with Lupus in the US at 1.4 to 2 million people.

Some Podiatrists have suggested using Pedors as a post-operative shoe as the upper can stretch to accommodate dressings, bandages etc.

2.VELCRO STRAP

    Arthritis
Many people who have arthritis in their feet also have it in their hands. This can make tying laces on shoes a daily nightmare. The broad band Velcro fastening needs as little effort as possible to secure Pedors to the foot, thus saving the hands from further pain.

    Access
Swollen or painful feet have a hard time getting into shoes with laces. The Velcro strap helps (in conjunction with the Neoprene upper) open the shoe as far as possible so that feet are placed into Pedors rather than forced in.

3.BALANCED AND SHAPED

    Supportive Sole
This makes the foot strike and move through the step in a proper fashion. If a sole is too flexible it can cause movement of the foot and some discomfort for those with problem feet.

    Heel Support
This again makes sure that the foot moves forwards and not laterally. In normal walking there is little lateral movement, (compared with, say, playing tennis), and the slight heel elevation will reduce stress on the Achilles Tendon and provide more shock absorption.

    Padded Inner
The special soft lining material provides comfort, support and stability and reassurance against rubbing and scratching for people with Diabetes.

4.REMOVABLE INNER-SOLE

    Orthotics
Many people have their own orthotic inner-soles made specifically for their feet. For example, people with Flat Feet (be it through Arthritis, Trauma, or Musculoskelatal Disorders), need custom orthotics that readjust the weight-bearing position of their feet. It would be impossible to make an inner-sole that suited every person, so for those who need to replace the Pedors inner-sole with their own custom made one, or one of our specialty innersole products, they can.

5.NON-SLIP SOLE

Reduced Slipping Due to the high grip sole.

    Indoor/Outdoor
The sole is durable enough to be worn outdoors, but comfortable enough to worn indoors, similar to a slipper. This means that Pedors are the only shoe that a person may need to wear in a day. Not only is this helpful to the elderly, but also to anyone who just needs to run to the store, take out the trash or visit a neighbour without changing shoes. Pedors are also machine washable.

    Lightweight
Pedors are very lightweight which is a feature that senior citizens find appealing as some orthopedic shoes may be too heavy to wear for long periods of time.
