The SCD Response Sequential Compression System detects patients' individual vascular refill rate to deliver reliable, efficient, customized compression therapy. The system uses a technique similar to air plethsmography to measure blood flow changes in the leg. This information is used by the system to calculate the patient's venous refill and adjust the frequency of compression. Additionally, the system periodically reevaluates the patient's refill time to detect and adjust for any positional changes that may occur during hospitalization.
