Physicians Applaud Gateway Health System's Move To Imprivata OneSign

Industry's Leading Enterprise Single Sign-on (ESSO) Solution Chosen to Secure Sensitive Patient Data and Speed Access to Vital Applications

Lexington, MA - Imprivata, Inc., the enterprise single sign-on (ESSO) appliance company, announced that Gateway Health System, a family of not-for-profit healthcare facilities, has selected Imprivata OneSign as its ESSO solution for 1,050 physicians, nurses and administrative staff. Gateway Health System chose Imprivata OneSign, the industry's only ESSO appliance, over other SSO solutions due to its proven track record in the healthcare environment, and the ease of use, implementation, and training for users and IT staff members.

Using Imprivata OneSign, Gateway Health System employees will only have to remember one secure password to access every application required to do their job, allowing them to work more quickly and effectively. Gateway Health System previously utilized only a generic password policy, which left the organization's sensitive data open to internal attack and limited the auditing capabilities of the IT staff. OneSign is not only providing increased security for the Gateway Health System network, but also allows the hospital to comply with increasingly stringent government security regulations such as HIPAA.

"OneSign has been a huge success. From an IT perspective, this has been the most successful product I've ever dealt with in terms of user satisfaction," said Stefan Hopper, CIO and Director of IS at Gateway Health System. "Our IT department has not received a single complaint from Gateway's physicians, and the entire staff is more productive because they can access critical applications more quickly by using only one user name and password. The feedback on OneSign is immediate. You don't have to do any long-term reviews or studies. You can find out if it's working right away, and in our case, it was."

Following an intensive education program around SSO technology, physicians demanded that the hospital implement Imprivata OneSign for all applications. Currently, the hospital's Core Healthcare Information Systems have been activated, and additional applications are being added in direct response to user requests. The hospital also plans to integrate OneSign with biometric readers for radiologists and ER physicians to further simplify and accelerate the log-in process in the departments where quick access is vital.

Due to the wide range of applications in use at hospitals, and the demanding schedules of healthcare employees, Gateway Health System needed to activate an SSO solution that could be implemented with no downtime and did not require an intensive training period. OneSign can be rolled out in a matter of days, because its Application Profile Generator learns the password behavior of all applications, thus requiring no scripting or application changes. Imprivata's ESSO solution also offers built-in support for strong authentication methods such as ID and USB tokens, smart cards, proximity cards, HID and Indala access cards, and finger biometrics.

"Overburdened with IT problems and stringent government regulations, hospitals of all sizes are beginning to recognize the need for a simple and effective password management solution that delivers immediate results and significantly reduces the burden on physicians and IT departments," said Omar Hussain, CEO of Imprivata. "OneSign's affordable, easy to manage approach has received overwhelming support from healthcare organizations, and with its implementation at Gateway, we continue our commitment to provide a cost-effective, user-friendly solution to physicians around the country."
