Pathways Home Health & Hospice Hosts Prestigious Japanese Health Care Research Mission

The purpose of this Japanese Health Care Research Mission was to learn about best practices and innovations in health care and medical technology in the United States.

Sunnyvale, CA (PRWEB) - Pathways hosted a Japanese health care research mission led by Dr. Toshiki Mano of the Taman University in Japan. This prestigious group of Japanese health-care professionals included thirteen physicians as well as a number of hospital administrators and attorneys. The purpose of this tour was to learn about best practices and innovations in health care and medical technology in the United States.

Over the course of a week, the Japanese group visited a total of six companies, including Pathways. The purpose of their visit to Pathways was to learn about innovative home health and hospice care delivery. The other companies that hosted the group were Accuray, Inc., Sunnyvale; UCSF, San Francisco; Barlow Hospital, UCLA, and Sunrise Assisted Living, all in Los Angeles; and the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN.

Pathways executives, physicians, and nursing supervisors provided an overall picture of how home health and hospice care is delivered at the bedside of fragile and dying patients in the United States. Pathways Home Health & Hospice is one of the oldest home health and hospice organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area, having served patients in their homes for more than 37 years.

Some programs of interest to the visiting group from Japan were the use of a clinical pharmacist as part of the care plan for home health patients, the introduction of technology to monitor vital signs of fragile patients in their homes, and dedicated electronic record management that follows the patient from hospital to home.
