Nash Health Care Systems To Realize True Interoperability Through Expanded Partnership With Misys Healthcare Systems

Misys to Connect Hospital with Regional Physicians' Practices and Hospice Organization to Improve Clinicians' Access to Patient Data

Raleigh, NC - Misys Healthcare Systems, a healthcare information technology company, announced that Nash Health Care Systems, a healthcare provider organization in Rocky Mount, N.C., will use Misys' technology to improve its workflow efficiency and patient safety across multiple venues of care. As part of Nash's vision of connecting its hospital with community physician offices and its affiliated hospice agency, the organization will deploy Misys' computer-based patient record system (Misys CPR), data sharing solution (Misys Connect), and clinical and business homecare and hospice solution (Misys Homecare). The connected solution will give Nash's caregivers complete access to patient records across the continuum of care and is an example of two North Carolina companies working together to improve patient care in the community.

"Enhancing Nash's technology leadership role through an increased investment in IT is at the forefront of our focus right now," said Richard K. Toomey, CEO of Nash Health Care Systems. "We look forward to adapting our current configuration of Misys CPR to deliver a whole new level of functionality to our healthcare providers without having to invest in an entirely new system. Misys is a valued local partner that has worked with us for many years as the Raleigh area continues to be at the forefront of healthcare IT."

"Nash is committed to creating an interoperable healthcare environment that provides physicians and other caregivers with better, faster access to patient information," said Dr. Rick Guarino, Chief Medical Officer at Nash Health Care Systems. "By using Misys products to connect our hospital, affiliated physician practices and hospice organization through the delivery of real-time patient data exchange, we can improve the patient's overall experience and our clinicians' efficiency."

Using Misys CPR, one of the industry's pioneering computer-based patient record systems, Nash Health Care Systems physicians can make more informed patient care decisions and act more quickly in the delivery of care by accessing the electronically-stored medical records. Community physicians have been using Misys EMR to achieve the same benefits, and the health system is now adding Misys Homecare. With Misys Connect, a patient's medical record moves with them from clinic to hospital or from the hospital to the hospice portion of care. This connection encourages community physicians to send more patients to Nash, knowing they can better track the care their patients receive outside of the walls of their practice.

"Creating an interoperable healthcare community will put Nash Health Care Systems at the leading edge of technology adoption, as the Misys team works closely with Nash professionals to support information sharing across the continuum of care," said Tom Skelton, CEO of Misys Healthcare Systems. "Through this expanded partnership, Misys has increased its local presence while positioning Nash to improve organizational efficiency and the medication administration function, resulting in benefits for patient and clinician alike."

"We decided to invest in Misys CPR and Misys Connect because we envision the tangible value of creating a Local Healthcare Information Organization (LHIO) - notably improved patient safety and caregiver productivity resulting from instant access to patient data," said Dave Hinkle, CIO of Nash Health Care Systems. "By partnering with Misys, we can implement products for our hospice agency as well, connecting physicians and nurses at an additional point of care. This is really leading edge technology, and by working with Misys in our community, we're on our way to offering the best care to residents."

Misys Connect is the first data sharing solution in the market to operate using the profiles and framework standards of Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) initiative. It is a key connection product in the Misys Optimum family, a group of products designed to increase patient information sharing across organizations, healthcare settings and technical solutions. The Misys Optimum line sets the standard for industry-wide interoperability.
