Medical Industries America Inc. officially came to life in 1987. The company began in the basement of a house in West Des Moines, Iowa. The founders, Russell and Marilyn Bird, filled their garage with nebulizer compressors imported from overseas and distributed them to dealers nationally. Over time, the couple became disenchanted with the imported product and decided to build their own respiratory devices. The Bird's had previously owned a home care company in Sydney, Australia. Russell had introduced oxygen concentrators to the Australian market in the early 80's. The Australian company also pioneered the very first commercial nasal C.P.A.P. machines in cooperation with Dr. Collin Sullivan.
Medical Industries America Inc. has grown dramatically in the last few years. It has become a significant supplier of respiratory products in the United States and overseas. The product line now includes compressors, nasal C.P.A.P. devices, suction machines and ultrasonics. A new division has been recently formed - "Position Dynamics" which will be marketing a unique tilt in space wheelchair.
Company headquarters are located in Adel, Iowa. The 65,000 square facility employs more then 60 full time personnel with a further 50 manufacturers representatives selling our respiratory products nationally.
The company has major plans for expansion in the next few years. We have recently attained ISO9001 registration.
