Complete communications, facility and emergency response solutions enhance efficiencies and improve services for Senior Living market

OTTAWA, Ontario, April 3, 2001 –– March Networks Corporation today announces that it has expanded its offerings for the senior living market with integrated communications, Emergency Response System (ERS), and security solutions. The company will showcase the integrated healthcare solutions at both the Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) show in Boston, M.A, April 3-5, (booth #532), and at the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) show in Washington D.C., April 8-10, (booth #417).

March Networks has a history of providing advanced ERS solutions to senior living facilities in North America including national providers Cooperative Retirement Services of America, National Church Residences and The Fountains. These organizations have used the ERS solution to enhance resident security and quality of life while improving facility operational efficiencies. The expanded offerings from March Networks now integrate emergency response functions with back-office voice and data communications and facility management with video monitoring and recording.

"Our senior living customers are facing new challenges associated with aging resident populations that require a higher level of care and they are looking for innovative approaches that simplify the use and administration of their technology systems," states Bob Webster, vice president and general manager, Healthcare Solutions for March Networks. "This new approach is being received well by both care givers and facility administrators because they are seeing improved quality of care, improved effectiveness of resources, and overall improved resident, staff and facility security."

The central element in the March Networks senior living solution is an ERS that allows residents to call for assistance with a discrete call button when in distress. Many facilities that are comprised of a range of care levels for their clients, including independent living, assisted living, and special care, have elected to adopt this advanced ERS solution to enhance the services they offer to clients and to increase resource efficiencies.

Christine Tremain, director of marketing with Wesley Homes in Des Moines, Washington states, "The March Networks system is definitely a marketable asset for Wesley Homes. Our residents have an added sense of security because they know they can get help when they need it." Renee Fisher, administrator for Partridge House in Hampton, New Hampshire adds, "With the March Networks system, we can ensure residents are getting a timely response without needing to hire another person for each eight-hour shift to really keep an eye on incoming calls."

In addition to core ERS capabilities such as mobile staff communications and alerts, in-room communications, patient wandering and daily resident check-in, senior living facilities are now offered applications for back-office communications including e-mail, internet connection, voice mail, automated attendant, interactive voice response and long distance services. This integrated communications approach is the result of a strategic alliance with Mitel Networks and the integration of the March Networks ERS and video security products, which are typically used by enterprise customers in banks, retail, telecommunications, and transportation markets to address aspects of facilities management.
