Home Health Care Chula Vista - Firstat Nursing Services Supports National Safe At Home Week, Publishes Guide To Promote Home Safety For Seniors
Firstat Nursing Services, a home health care agency serving Chula Vista, Eastlake and San Diego publishes guide – How home health care providers can help keep seniors safe at home.
Chula Vista, Ca (PRWEB) - August 23rd through 27th marks National Safe at Home Week, a time dedicated to educating and informing families on how best to promote safety in the home and avoid injuries. “For seniors who live alone, maintaining a safe home environment is an everyday challenge, making it even important to share tips and strategies with caregivers and family members,” said Linnea Goodrich, president of Firstat Nursing Services in San Diego, CA.
In light of National Safe at Home week, Firstat has put together a list of three ways to promote safety in and around the home of an aging senior.
Do a “Walk Through” of the Home - Often seniors forget or need assistance checking minor issues in the home that if left unattended could become safety hazards. Take a few minutes and do a “walk through” looking for anything that could lead to an accident. Check all light bulbs in table lamps and overhead lighting to ensure they work properly and inspect cords to media equipment for frayed wires or loose connections.
Additionally, consider adding non slip mats or rugs in front of the bathtub and sink and also in the kitchen. In the bedroom, add an additional phone line that can be reached from the bed and place a small notebook or memo pad with important phone numbers in case there is an emergency. Finally, check the fire alarm to make sure it is working properly and the batteries are fresh.
Check Air Conditioners and Heating Units - To ensure optimal comfort of a loved one, take the time to check cooling and heating equipment to ensure it’s working properly and any maintenance issues are resolved before the unit is needed. This summer in particular has been unusually hot in most regions of the country, making it even more important to take a proactive approach to maintenance activities like changing filters or replacing overworked, worn parts. Keeping heating and cooling systems working efficiently will eliminate heat related illnesses and ensure your loved one is safe and comfortable all year long.
Consider an In Home Care Giver - Seniors who are independent and live alone may not need daily medical care, but can benefit from the personal attention and skills of a professional home care giver. In many cases, simply having another hand available to help prepare meals, administer medication and ensure the home is safe is all that is necessary to help a loved one stay happy, fulfilled and injury free. Home care givers provide an extra set of eyes, and give concerned family members peace of mind their loved one is safe in their home.
National Safe at Home Week is the perfect time to think about how to make the home of an aging senior safe and injury free. From changing light bulbs and replacing wires to ensuring heating and cooling systems are working efficiently, staying on top of minor maintenance issues is an easy way to prevent injuries
