Board Of Certification For Emergency Nursing Now Offering Key Certification EXAM Online

new format "convenient" option for emergency nurses renewing professional certification

Kansas City – The Des Plaines, Ill-based Emergency Nurses Association's Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN®) and Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP) today announced the launch of a new Web-based exam that simplifies the renewal process for emergency nurses seeking Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN®) certification.

Known as the CEN-Renewal Option (CEN-RO®) by Internet-Based Testing (IBT) program, the online exam measures competency in emergency nursing for emergency nurses renewing their CEN certification. The program replaces CEN-RO by Open Book Evaluation, a paper and pencil recertification test, which will remain available through Dec. 31, 2004. CEN-RO by IBT is approved by the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) for 30 Continuing Education Contact Hours.

"The online format of this exam provides emergency nurses with convenient scheduling and testing options 24 hours a day, seven days a week through a secure Web site" said Tancy Stanbery, BCEN certification officer. "Upon completing the exam, emergency nurses can receive immediate score reports on demand."

"This online option is designed to encourage emergency nurses to conduct outside research to help them properly and thoroughly address questions on the exam," said Rhonda Miller, BCEN chair.

Emergency nurses seeking to take the CEN exam for the first time will still need to register for the CEN computer-based proctored exam offered at AMP testing assessment centers throughout the United States.

The online testing functionality of CEN-RO by IBT was created by Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP) and its technology division, Logic eXtension Resources (LXR). It is currently available through the ENA Web site (http://www.ena.org/CEN-RO/application.asp).

"AMP is pleased to assist the ENA in offering CEN candidates this enhanced service," said Gary Smith, AMP president and CEO. "Although AMP has administered hundreds of thousands of Internet-based professional examinations, the BCEN is the first to utilize this service for recertification."
