Source: Barrier Free Lifts®, Inc.
Barrier Free Lifts® is the sole proprietor for North America of patient transfer lifts designed and manufactured by Horcher GmbH, our German based, sister company. Along with Horcher, Barrier Free Lifts® oversees the largest network of distributors and dealers in the lifting industry offering a complete line of patient lifts. Barrier Free Lifts®, Inc. is a privately owned, for profit corporation, organized under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Utilizing a network of over 200 independent distributors and dealers, Barrier Free Lifts®, Inc. covers the United States, Canada and Hong Kong, while sister companies Horcher GmbH & Til Centrum cover Europe.

Founded in July of 1990, corporate headquarters is located at 9230 Prince William Street, in historic Manassas, Virginia. Barrier Free Lifts® quickly became the industry standard in ceiling mounted lifts and within a few years broadened it's focus to include marketing it's entire range of lifts which includes mobile floor model patient lifts. With an education and background as a professional nurse, Barrier Free Lifts® president has worked extensively with a variety of patient populations. He and the Geschäftsführer (President) of Horcher GmbH, established Barrier Free Lifts®, with a twofold goal: helping people who require assistance with performing the task of lifting, and helping people who need to be lifted. Our corporate philosophy is based upon a helping philosophy and the Barrier Free Lifts® motto is "Helping You Achieve Greater Mobility."

Barrier Free Lifts® offers the most comprehensive line of mobile floor and ceiling mounted patient lifts of any company in the patient lift industry. Our lifts and specialized slings are designed to meet the lifting need for all types of clients. We have a range of lifts specifically developed for those able to operate them independently, and for those who require assistance. Our lifts are constructed with the highest quality and built-in durability, yet they remain remarkably affordable. We are proud of the fact that less then 1% of our lifts require any type of service during the warranty period.

Research and development is constantly performed to keep our product on the cutting edge of technology. Barrier Free Lifts® has worked closely with customers and caregivers whose particular disability creates unique needs. We are always interested in soliciting, researching, and developing lift features to address them. Our engineers constantly work to improve the technology of our lifts both inside and out. We strive to provide clients with easier, and more comfortable ways to complete the transfer process.

As mentioned previously, Barrier Free Lifts® has a network of independent associates located across North America and Europe. One of the many benefits of having such a large network is that our dealers and distributors are never too far from any given client. This enables us to provide better service and support to our customers. Another benefit of our large network of associates is that we offer and provide free, on site demonstrations and estimates for anyone interested in purchasing our product. One of our distributors or dealers will travel to a facility or a customer home to set up a demonstration unit in order for the customer to experience the lift system. While there, the dealer can assess the customer's needs, plan the system to meet them and ultimately, provide an estimate of the cost to install the system. Such demos and estimates are free of charge with no obligation to buy.

Barrier Free Lifts® lends consistent support to our family of distributors and dealers. All dealers receive mandatory installation training. Ceiling lift systems can only be installed by those who have had the training necessary to install them in a variety of settings. When customers present challenges dealers may not have encountered, they confer with corporate directly and/or via structural sketches including a description of the desired system. Our technicians will assist the dealer with planning and completing an appropriate estimate for the system.

Over the past 10 years, Barrier Free Lifts® has focused primarily on providing lifts to the homecare and institutional market. We constantly educate people about safe lifting and the ease of lifting using ceiling mounted lifts. Folks who have been faced with the challenge of having to lift a family member at home have quickly recognized how much easier and safer it is to lift and transfer using a ceiling mounted lift. Institutions have been more resistant to the concept of ceiling lifts because of the perceived need to be able to move the lift from room to room. Only recently, after years of educating professionals have facilities begun to recognize the utility of and use ceiling lifts in addition to mobile floor model lifts.

While we will always hold the homecare patient close to our hearts, the outcry to protect healthcare workers from work related lifting injuries is driving Barrier Free Lifts® toward targeted efforts to provide hospitals, nursing homes and other healthcare facilities with a complete range of patient lifts. By providing modern ergonomically designed lifts to healthcare organizations we can significantly improve the efficiency of lifting and transferring of residents. Facilities can realize a range of financial benefits by creating an environment which decreases work related injuries.

Our products are reliable, service is efficient, and our comprehensive lifting line has enabled Barrier Free Lifts® to be known as the industry standard. We have expanded in a planfull and cautious manner into the global market while maintaining the integrity of our name and product. Wherever a Barrier Free Lifts® can be found we will always strive to provide the highest quality of service for a product that rarely needs it.
